Has Google Broken The Internet?

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Is it just me or what, please let me know. Did I miss the memo? Ever since I jumped into bed with Google, example, AdWords, AdSense, Google Base, Youtube, Gmail, Google Docs and Maps, etc… I get the feeling that my bandwidth has gone to hell.

Is it just me and my imagination, so I’d like to think. I’m not sure? It seems to me that Google is so busy trying to stack, pack and track my every move that my internet is effectively broken. I feel like I’m on dial-up!

What’s the deal Google? Will you let yming, double-click and other such services EAT our hard earned and costly broadband for lunch? Or will you slow down, stop trying to load so many services in the background and remember your customers are paying through the nose for their internet connections.

Has Google Gotten Too Big For Its Breeches?

Originally I was going to write this story about how the YouTube rating system has failed us. Which, I thought, after some contemplation was a really good subject and would be of interest to readers.

I have since been sidetracked after spending a whole day trying to add an AD Group to Google AdWords. Wow, and that’s putting it nicely, what a cluster tuck that turned out to be. If it weren’t bad enough that AdSense does not support delivering ads over HTTPS (SSL) connections without clients receiving a threatening warning that their connection could be insecure or jeopardized in some way, the reliability and speed of of the Google network gives me pause for concern.

Just for the record, I’m a fairly easy going sort of dude, I can work with most people, in most situations. However, the simple task of adding an extra AD Group to my existing AdWords account turned into a real nightmare!

Let me explain. I woke up, it was a Saturday morning and like many Saturday mornings I found myself working on my pet project, my small corner of the web, better known as MY Website. Not a day job but an irresistible passion that I have fondly incorporated as part of my life. Well, like I said earlier, this became an all day event…+ Adding AD Group…Saving…Only to find the severs were over whelmed and I was receiving the message “Network Connection” problem, please wait, try again later, bla bla bla. I never could get the AD Group to save and being all Javascript you can’t tell what’s going on, the page just seems to time out or freeze up, I’m not sure which? I found the Google AdWords interface, for all intents and purposes, unusable.

All I can say is I’m frustrated and it makes me wonder whether Google has gotten to big for its breeches when it comes to delivering all of these cool new services.
